Bandwidth prioritization has been implemented for all Internet traffic. This means we set priority on our Internet traffic so that for example, all assessment web sites receive top priority while streaming services such as youtube receive lower priority. If bandwidth is available, then everything goes as normal. However, say in an extreme case 300 people start watching youtube videos at the same time, the firewall will restrict the bandwidth available to youtube while ensure more critical operational sites remain available such as e-mail and Infinite Campus.
* In general:
Top priority traffic: SBAC testing, Star math, iStation and other assessments
Internet traffic: E-mail, Infinite Campus, general web browsing
Lower priority: streaming services such as youtube, videos from news stations and other bandwidth intensive activities.
Internet services are a shared system that on any given day 2000 students and 350 staff expect to have available to them each academic day.
* Other priorities may be set and/or adjusted to maintain the integrity of the Internet connection for all district users.
